CAMPBELL, Calif., Dec. 9, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ForeScout Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of pervasive network security solutions for Global 2000 enterprises and government organizations, and OPSWAT, a provider of software-based solutions to secure and manage IT infrastructure, today announced a collaboration that will result in advanced endpoint compliance enforcement. As a new ForeScout ControlFabric™ partner, OPSWAT will add its GEARS functionality to a growing list of ControlFabric integrations that provide IT security managers with better situational awareness and endpoint security.
"IT security professionals, such as those in the healthcare industry, are challenged with high-risk data, complicated environments, tight budgets, regulatory scrutiny and potentially very large fines. Ensuring that every device on the network, including BYOD, is HIPAA compliant is only one of the many IT challenges that must be taken care of 24/7," said Frank Dickson, principal analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "With users' skill levels ranging from novice to expert, working hours around the clock and patient lives at stake, it's paramount that network access is granular and remediation messaging is clear to prevent downtime. Therefore, companies require solutions that provide enhanced and integrated security beyond basic HIPAA compliance requirements (for the healthcare industry) to mitigate risk without hindering end users."
ForeScout CounterACT™, OPSWAT GEARS Interoperability
OPSWAT GEARS is an IT security management platform that provides both cloud and client-based tools for advanced compliance assessment, remediation and threat detection on endpoints. The client-based inspection tool provides enhanced visibility for compliance measures like hard disk encryption and password protection.
Joint customers will be able to employ the interoperability between ForeScout and OPSWAT to extend CounterACT's ability to inspect and remediate endpoints. CounterACT can be used to onboard devices by distributing the GEARS client, which then performs a deep host-level inspection of the endpoint. This inspection reveals installed applications, their configuration, system details and malware infections detected by any of 43 anti-malware engines.
CounterACT can be configured for various actions according to role, device, location, security posture and different levels of endpoint compliance. From simply checking for the presence of GEARS client, to meeting a customized security baseline policy defined in GEARS cloud, these various options, combined with CounterACT's versatile identification, assessment and remediation options, allow administrators to gain greater endpoint security assurance while preserving the user experience.
"Customers have to perform extensive analysis of the security posture of devices accessing their network in order to comply with different regulations and mitigate risk. Devices that do not meet regulations must be quarantined and remediated," said Tom Mullen, vice president of business development at OPSWAT. "With both GEARS and CounterACT deployed, customers can take advantage of the advanced endpoint compliance analysis capabilities of GEARS plus the advanced network access and endpoint remediation capabilities of CounterACT, all in one easily managed and integrated solution."
"The sheer diversity of access and devices, volume of threats and variety of potential compliance violations signal the need for a more proactive approach to network security," said Paul Phillips, vice president of corporate and business development at ForeScout. "ForeScout and OPSWAT interoperability serves to advance endpoint visibility, intelligence and control to enforce compliance to reduce risks."
