OCBC COMMENDS GOV. BROWN'S COMMITMENT TO WATER, TRANSPORTATION

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 6, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Orange County Business Council (OCBC) today released the following statement in response to Governor Brown's inaugural address:

OCBC commends Gov. Brown's continued focus on important infrastructure projects such as water and transportation needs. The passage of Proposition 1 and the California Water Action Plan is a great step in planning for the state's long-term water supply needs, and the governor shows determination in continuing that success. In addition, OCBC is supportive of the governor's call for action to deal with the state's deteriorating transportation system. OCBC has long been an advocate for more focus on infrastructure funding and innovation, and looks forward to working with the state to secure funding needed for statewide road maintenance, as well as new capacity needs for a growing economy and population.

"His resolve to tackle big items such as water sustainability and transportation funding will greatly enhance the economic vitality of this state. In addition, California is in a better position to address these needs with a continued focus on reducing the state's debt and saving for the future with Proposition 2's Rainy Day Fund. This financial stability means more people have been able to get back to work. And while an average state unemployment rate of 7.2 percent is an improvement, many areas of the state suffer with double-digit unemployment, and we must do even better—OCBC stands ready to work with the administration and legislature toward California's full economic recovery and employment.
