GHP is extending its very successful collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by entering into an extension of its current management contract. The extension means that GHP will continue to run the Rashid Center for Diabetes and Research for at least another two years. GHP’s diabetes centre in Ajman, the Rashid Center for Diabetes and Research, started in 2010 and contains several different clinics, all of which aim at improving the life of diabetics in the United Arab Emirates. The centre comprises a diabetes clinic, an obesity clinic, a lifestyle clinic, physiotherapy, a foot clinic, an ophthalmology clinic, a dental clinic, cardiology, neurology and a laboratory. Nearly 30,000 patient appointments and more than 225,000 laboratory tests were carried out during 2014. The centre is the national reference centre for diabetes and obesity treatment and a centre of excellence for all of the GCC. Moreover, extensive research is carried out in a number of areas and employees at the clinic have published a large number of research reports in recent years. “It is most gratifying that GHP can continue its work at the Rashid Center of improving the quality of life of diabetes patients in the UAE by combining modern diabetes care with research and education of the local population,” says Bengt Ternström, the clinic’s General Manager. It is estimated that approximately 20 percent of the population in the United Arab Emirates suffers from diabetes, mainly caused by obesity and overweight. GHP sees potential for continued business development in the region, not least in the diabetes diagnostic area. 5 February 2015 Gothenburg, Sweden Global Health Partner AB (publ) Queries should be addressed to: Daniel Öhman, CEO, Tel: +46 708 55 37 07 Tobias Linebäck, CFO and Head of Investor Relations, Tel: +46 708 55 37 19 GHP is an internationally active health care provider that operates specialist clinics in a select number of diagnostic areas through the application of a business model that is unique in the health care industry, where leading doctors become partners and shareholders.
