Photo Release -- VIEVU Unveils 'VIEVU Solution,' a Low-Cost, Flexible Comprehensive Program for Law Enforcement Agencies Looking to Deploy Body Cameras

Includes Hardware, Software, Secure Cloud Storage With High-Quality Service and Training

SEATTLE, Feb. 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VIEVU, an industry leader in body worn video (BWV) for law enforcement, security, and emergency responders today announces 'VIEVU Solution', a low-cost and flexible option for law enforcement agencies in need of body worn video cameras. Priced at $55 per month, VIEVU Solution includes the LE3 HD camera, VERIPATROL secure file management software hosted on the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud, 60GB of storage (expandable for $0.125/GB/month), and 24/7/365 support.

With law enforcement adoption of body worn video accelerating, storing digital evidence has become a major issue as a year's worth of video from each camera can be about a terabyte of data. By developing a secure storage system on the Azure Government Cloud, VIEVU is helping police departments capture and archive video evidence gathered during a police officer's daily routine. This provides a convenient, on-demand solution to view, modify, and share video data.

Highlighting the efficacy of body worn video cameras, Oakland Police Department recently reviewed its program and found a 73.8% decrease in use-of-force incidents. The number of incidents dropped from 2,186 in 2009 to 1,945 in 2010, when just under 200 officers began to wear body cameras, and dropped down to 572 incidents in 2014 with 619 officers wearing cameras. In addition to the decrease in use of force, the department has gone 18 months without an officer-involved shooting, which used to average about eight incidents per year.

"VIEVU cameras and software deliver an immediate benefit to agencies using our solution. We've created a low-cost, comprehensive monthly plan that our customers can more readily budget. In addition to hardware, software, and CJIS-capable cloud storage, VIEVU offers comprehensive training, system set-up, sample policies and a 3-year warranty for all of our cameras," said Steve Lovell, President, VIEVU.

Furthermore, a top concern for public safety agencies is whether a cloud platform meets the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) policies, which enables departments to connect to the FBI's systems and more securely access its data. Understanding this is a crucial priority for law enforcement and public safety agencies, VIEVU worked with Microsoft Corp. to develop one of the first CJIS-capable versions of the trusted VERIPATROL platform for the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud.

The Azure Government Cloud has a flexible design so agencies can utilize hybrid solutions that store sensitive data in an on-premises datacenter and less sensitive information in the cloud. Agencies can scale services as needs change, all without having to sacrifice compliance with regulatory obligations.

"At Microsoft, we understand the importance of delivering comprehensive solutions and VIEVU continues to innovate through its body-worn cameras and new cloud video storage service. With the VIEVU solution, law enforcement agencies across the country can now deploy body-worn cameras with more secure cloud storage backed by Microsoft's CJIS-capable Azure Government cloud platform," said Richard Zak, Director of Justice & Public Safety Solutions, Microsoft.
