NEW ROCHELLE, NY--(Marketwired - Feb 24, 2015) - In celebration of National Nurse Anesthetists Week, Somnia Anesthesia, an anesthesia practice management company serving hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and office based practices nationwide, launched its fourth annual Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) of the Year contest on January 19. Nominations were accepted through February 13.
Somnia received nominations from across the country that celebrated the important and exceptional work that CRNAs do each day. Nominees were reviewed by Somnia's clinical leadership team to determine this year's winner. Among the many notable nominations that were received, Joe Velasquez of Kern Medical Center (KMC), Bakersfield, California stood out from the crowd, receiving the most nominations. Joe was selected for exemplifying best-in-class patient care, dedication to constant improvement, and an excellent work ethic. "Joe is highly motivated, and takes on lots of responsibility. He manages the CRNA's schedule, teaches and coordinates airway management training twice a year for 8-12 weeks, and is pursuing his PhD in Nurse Anesthesia. He is 100% committed to doing his best every day," said Mark Hunter, Joe's colleague at KMC.
Joseph Velasquez joins previous CRNA of the Year Award recipients Katherine Piekos of Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Holly Robins of Yale University, and Dorothea Connolly from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "CRNAs are an integral part of quality patient care deliverables and this award is our way of recognizing excellence in the field of anesthesiology," said Brandy Pearson, Somnia's Director of National Recruitment.
