DALLAS, Feb. 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Associa President & CEO John Carona spent Friday morning reading to third graders at Lakewood Elementary School as part of the Read Across America activities throughout Dallas ISD. He also introduced students to Scout, the Associa Supports Kids (ASK) mascot who took photos with the kids and donated copies of his puppy adventure books to the school as part of his annual book tour.
"The young students at Lakewood Elementary School are realizing the importance of reading and we're proud to show our support for the great things happening right here in our community," says former State Senator Carona. "Dallas has been the home of Associa for more than 35 years and there are many Dallas ISD alumni working with us today, so it was my honor to spend the morning among our future leaders."
"We had dozens of fabulous guest readers throughout the day and the visit from Mr. Carona and Scout was one of the highlights for the kids," says Lakewood Elementary School Principal Toni Goodman. "We have plans to partner with Associa for future activities here at the school and are thankful for their support."
The theme this year was Dr. Seuss and Mr. Carona read Fox in Socks to Ms. Gillespie's and Mr. Lopez's third grade classes. Read Across America Day is celebrated nationwide on March 2 but Dallas ISD planned its activities in advance.
