MADISON, WI--(Marketwired - March 17, 2015) - WorldFish, an international non-profit research organization aiming to reduce poverty by improving fisheries and aquaculture has selected the Widen Media Collective for its digital asset management (DAM) needs. WorldFish promotes sustainable solutions to support increased supply and access to fish at affordable prices for poor consumers in developing countries. They will use Widen's DAM solution to organize and manage their extensive library of photos, videos, logos, and design files for publications.
Formed in 1975, WorldFish has an extensive library of media files they were trying to keep managed and organized. Like many organizations in today's digital age, the speed at which assets are created and used proved to be too much for the "shared drive" method of asset management.
"In the past, we saved these assets on local drives which hasn't been the most effective way to organize them," stated Toby Johnson, Senior Manager of Media Relations at WorldFish. "We wanted to find a system which would allow us to organize, search, and share our assets easily."
WorldFish began their search for better media management by making a list of requirements for a new system. They used those requirements as the basis for their search of relevant applications.
"We were mainly interested in creating a repository to organize our most used asset types, such as PDFs, gifs, jpegs, and video formats such as mpeg4 and mov," stated Johnson. "The goal was to make them easily searchable."
After an exhaustive search and numerous demos, the Widen Media Collective was chosen. According to Johnson, Widen "offered most of the features that we were looking for and was within our budget range."
WorldFish plans for the DAM to provide the communications team at headquarters and in-country offices an easy-to-use visual repository for staff to easily find photos, videos, logos and design files. The ability to quickly search for and repurpose these files in WorldFish publications, PowerPoint presentations, and marketing materials will be extremely useful in carrying out their mission.
"Moving from silos of data to a centralized model, migration of assets can be a perceived roadblock," stated Brenna Hale, Widen Senior Advisor. "Widen eased this transition by systematically migrating images and metadata managed in WorldFish's Flickr account into their new Media Collective DAM system."
