BOSTON, March 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- One of the world's largest agricultural processors and food ingredient providers, with more than 30,000 employees serving customers in more than 140 countries, will address its sustainability goals by improving water use efficiency. With a global value chain that includes more than 470 crop procurement locations, 285 ingredient manufacturing facilities, 40 innovation centers and the world's premier crop transportation network, this Midwest-based company connects the harvest to the home, making products for food, animal feed, chemical and energy uses.
The company is well known for its strong position on sustainability, with a company-wide commitment to effectively manage water resources. Its latest project in Lubbock, Texas is no exception. The facility will install a Desalitech ReFlex™ reverse osmosis system to purify municipal feed water for use for makeup water in its boiler. "Water efficiency is a top priority. We chose the Desalitech system because it guaranteed us maximum recovery, lowest energy consumption and is expected to minimize cleaning frequency. In addition, the ReFlex reverse osmosis system gives us the flexibility to adapt to any future changes in water quality or process water quality requirements," said the organizations Water Resource Engineer.
The ReFlex reverse osmosis system will be commissioned in 2015 at a guaranteed 92% water recovery rate and is capable of operating at up to 94% recovery. Such high efficiency operation will produce 68% less wastewater than a typical conventional 2-stage reverse osmosis system operating at 75% recovery without requiring the pH adjustment typically necessary, saving disposal costs and reducing municipal water consumption.
