ALBANY, N.Y., April 13, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Service beyond the doctor's office – that is what this year's CDPHP Physicians' Academy inductees have contributed to the local community and around the world.
From the battlefield in the Middle East to the streets of Arbor Hill, four local physicians are making a difference and leaving a lasting impact in the fields of pediatrics, nephrology, gastroenterology, and family medicine. Now, these dedicated doctors are being recognized by their peers.
Created in 2004, the CDPHP Physicians' Academy recognizes extraordinary physicians who are nominated by their peers and selected by an esteemed panel of CDPHP Board and Physicians' Academy members. The honorees are selected for their delivery of high-quality care, development and observance of best practices, and their willingness to mentor colleagues and staff.

Since the Academy's inception, and under the leadership of its dean, Anthony Tartaglia, MD, CDPHP has inducted dozens of local physicians from a variety of specialties.
Introducing this year's Physicians' Academy inductees:
Ingrid M. Allard, MD, MSEd
Dr. Allard specializes in general pediatrics and is an attending physician at Albany Medical Center. She is also the associate dean for Community Outreach and Medical Education, an associate professor of medical education and an associate professor of pediatrics at AMC. Under Dr. Allard's direction, medical students provide screenings for veterans at the annual Eastern New York State Homeless Veterans Coalition Stand-Down.
Dr. Allard has earned numerous honors, including being recognized as one of America's Top African-American Medical Educators by Black Health Magazine in 2014. She currently serves on multiple committees, including the New York State Early Childhood Advisory Council, New York State Minority Health Council, as well as AMC's Undergraduate Medical Education Council and Academic Quality Council.
Syed Haqqie, MD
Dr. Haqqie serves as professor of medicine and director of educational programs in the division of nephrology and hypertension at Albany Medical College. He has extensive experience in the area of internal medicine and nephrology. Dr. Haqqie has been instrumental in establishing a program for continuous forms of renal replacement therapy.
Dr. Haqqie has served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 23 years with numerous overseas deployments, including tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn and Joint Endeavor. He retired as a colonel and won numerous awards for his outstanding service to the United States.
Dr. Haqqie is the recipient of four Outstanding Attending Physician and Teacher of the Year awards by Albany Medical College. He is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation. He also holds the prestigious membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. Dr. Haqqie routinely conducts clinical research and has published multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals.
William Notis, MD
Dr. Notis specializes in gastroenterology. In 1977, he founded what later became Albany Gastroenterology Consultants. His hospital appointments include Albany Memorial Hospital, St. Peter's Hospital, and St. Peter's Surgery and Endoscopy Center. He is an associate clinical professor at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Notis was recognized as Physician of the Year in 2004 by St. Peter's Hospital and Physician of the Year in 1992 by the Capital District Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. His professional society memberships include the American Gastroenterology Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Internal Medicine, and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. He is a former member of the CDPHP Board of Directors.
Elena Rosenbaum, MD
Dr. Rosenbaum specializes in family medicine and is fellowship trained in integrative medicine. She is an assistant professor in the department of Family Medicine and Community Medicine at Albany Medical College and practices at Albany Family Medicine. She is also a clinical assistant professor of family medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Rosenbaum recently obtained grant funding from the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation to complete a research project on adding mindfulness to community-based child nutrition programs. She is conducting this research in Arbor Hill. She is on the board of Soul Fire Farm Institute and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.
