Louis Berger's Hawthorne Services division wins $21.6 million contract to build, operate Fort Bliss fuel facilities

MORRISTOWN, N.J., April 21, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Defense Logistics Agency Energy (DLA Energy) has awarded Louis Berger's Hawthorne Services division a $21.6 million, 19-year operations and maintenance (O &M) fuels contract at Fort Bliss. Hawthorne Services will design, build, operate and maintain two contractor-owned, contractor-operated (COCO) bulk and retail service fuel facilities and operate four government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO) bulk retail and alongside aviation refueling facilities at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, Texas.

"Hawthorne Services has extensive experience building and operating fuel facilities for DLA Energy and is well-positioned to increase the installation's operational capabilities and continue its long history of excellence," said Andrew Bailey, president of Louis Berger's services operating company. "We are very excited to extend our 16-year relationship with DLA Energy and to continue providing exceptional COCO/GOCO fuel services at U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Navy installations."

Home to 32,000 soldiers and covering 1.1 million acres (approximately 445,000 hectares) — more than the U.S. state of Rhode Island — Fort Bliss hosts the 1st Armored Division, nicknamed "Old Ironsides," the Air Defense Artillery Center of Excellence, the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and Joint Task Force North. The installation also hosts U.S. and a variety of allied nation soldiers for air defense training. Distinguished U.S. generals such as John "Black Jack" Pershing, Omar Bradley and George Patton have called Fort Bliss home.

Acquired in 2012, Hawthorne Services is a division of Louis Berger's services operations that provides skilled technical services in facility and fueling operations at airfields, military bases and state highway facilities. Hawthorne Services will begin design work in April, with construction scheduled to start in July. The planned operational date is February 2016.
