PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - May 21, 2015) - Yubico, the leading provider of simple and open online identity protection, today announced that Yubico U2F-compliant authentication devices -- U2F Security Key, YubiKey NEO and YubiKey Edge -- have passed the FIDO Alliance Certification Testing Program for 1.0 Specification and are official FIDO Certified™ products.
Earlier today, the FIDO Alliance introduced the FIDO Certified™ testing program, which is designed to measure compliance and ensure interoperability among products and services that support FIDO 1.0 specifications. FIDO certification is performed using a set of test tools developed by the FIDO Alliance, followed by participation in a proctored interoperability event.
The FIDO Certified testing complements the previous FIDO Ready™ program, which was the first brand that defined FIDO tested products.
"FIDO Certified is the next step in the evolution of Yubico's lineup of FIDO-compliant keys," said Stina Ehrensvard, CEO and founder, Yubico, Inc. "We were one of the first to offer FIDO Ready U2F devices, and have seen the acceptance and deployment of our keys grow rapidly. This certification ensures interoperability of products and services while increasing confidence in FIDO U2F, as we see more consumers and enterprises embrace the technology."
Recent support for FIDO U2F includes Google Drive for Work, which allows admins to easily deploy, monitor and manage U2F Security Key, YubiKey NEO and YubiKey Edge. IT admins can see where and when employees last used their keys with usage tracking and reports, with no additional software to install.
"Yubico has been a driving force behind the development and adoption of the U2F protocol. We congratulate them for meeting the requirements of FIDO 1.0 certification and for being among the first to offer FIDO Certified products and solutions to the marketplace," said Brett McDowell, executive director of the FIDO Alliance. "The acute need to move beyond passwords with FIDO authentication is fulfilled as reliable FIDO products are made available to users, enterprise, and service providers who are ready for more secure, private and easier-to-use authentication."
The first FIDO Certified testing sessions were conducted on April 29th and 30th at events in San Jose, and Mountain View, CA.
FIDO U2F Security Key, YubiKey NEO and YubiKey Edge are available immediately. It should be noted that for the YubiKey NEO, FIDO Certified (and Ready) only covers the USB interface, not NFC. For more information and to see U2F in action, please visit Yubico.
