MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - May 27, 2015) - Terrestrial Energy Inc. announces that it has engaged with the Dalton Nuclear Institute at the University of Manchester, UK, undertaking work to advance the Integral Molten Salt Reactor to the construction and licensing phase, expected early 2017. The Dalton Nuclear Institute is recognized as one of the world's leading nuclear laboratory facilities. Dalton Nuclear Institute's involvement is in keeping with the Company's strategy of working with globally pre-eminent nuclear laboratories, universities and industrial firms.
Simon Irish, Chief Executive of Terrestrial Energy commented on the contract, "We are exceedingly pleased to be working with the Dalton Nuclear Institute and adding a European dimension to what is already an international project involving complementary work by universities and national laboratories including Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee in the USA, and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and the University of Waterloo in Canada. We are continuing with our plans for international research, development and commercialization."
Professor Tim Abram of the University of Manchester commented "We welcome the opportunity to work with Terrestrial Energy and look forward to helping them take forward this promising molten salt reactor technology."
Terrestrial Energy's Integral Molten Salt Reactor is a Generation IV nuclear reactor system that represents a revolution in nuclear safety, waste, proliferation and cost competitiveness. The IMSR can provide stable, carbon-free, high-quality heat and electricity for industrial customers at a cost that is competitive with fossil fuels, including coal power. The IMSR is grid- and water- independent, scalable, and far more convenient than fossil fuel power. The IMSR is ideal for small- to medium- electricity markets, industrial facilities - remote or otherwise - and remote communities.
