Battelle to Build Suite of Mobile Analytical Labs for U.S. Department of Defense

New $25 Million Contract Will Aid in Identification of Chemical, Biological and Radiological Threats

COLUMBUS, OH--(Marketwired - June 08, 2015) - Battelle was awarded a new $25 million contract to build three different mobile lab platforms, called the Common Analytical Laboratory System (CALS), over the next three years.

The mobile platforms will include a variety of chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) analytic instruments that will assist service members and first responders in identifying environmental CBR hazards.

Since the labs are intended for multiple users, each configuration will support either field confirmation or theater validation; and two will be mounted on vehicles.

Work for the project will be conducted at Battelle's facilities in Columbus, Ohio; Aberdeen, Maryland; Dublin, Ohio; and Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri locations.

"We're eager to begin the work," said program manager Rodney Black. "We put together this winning package by leveraging our experience with chemical and biological defense analytical equipment and software expertise to make design improvements that save the government money while not decreasing any capabilities."

Every day, the people of Battelle apply science and technology to solving what matters most. At major technology centers and national laboratories around the world, Battelle conducts research and development, designs and manufactures products, and delivers critical services for government and commercial customers.
