LOS ANGELES, July 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MobileCause, the leading provider of cloud based fundraising solutions for nonprofit organizations, has helped premier client United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) raise more than $572,000 from businesses and individuals with crowdfunding for the Restore Baltimore campaign.
UWCM established the Maryland Unites Fund to provide humanitarian relief and stabilize the neighborhoods sparked by unrest and violence after the controversial death of Freddie Gray, an African American, 25-year-old who was arrested by the Baltimore Police Department, then later died from injuries sustained while being transported in a police van.
To benefit the Fund, UWCM launched their Restore Baltimore fundraising campaign on MobileCause's crowdfunding platform in May, enabling their supporters to quickly and securely donate on a mobile-friendly donation page, become fundraisers, and share to social media, text and email contacts from the convenience of their smartphone, tablet or personal computers.
"We wanted to give people a place to donate in order to help their city and restore Baltimore from the chaos that had ensued" stated Molly Boncaro, Associate Vice President of United Way of Central Maryland. "Within a few hours, we were able to create a fundraising campaign through MobileCause very, very quickly and get it up very quickly because of the immediate need."
MobileCause crowdfunding made it possible for Restore Baltimore supporters to text MDUNITES to 71777 to easily set up crowdfunding pages in just a few minutes right from their smartphones, customized with individual photos or business logos, personal calls to action, and fundraising goals. They were then able to promote their pages to drive awareness and collect donations. Restore Baltimore received full donor information and funds were securely deposited the very next day.
Maryland Unites promoted the Restore Baltimore campaign to local leaders, workplace coordinators, high-level donors and volunteers via press releases, text messages, social media and email announcements and as well as on local news, donated billboards and stadium advertising. By recognizing supporters on a mobile-friendly donor wall they encouraged further giving and were able to exceed their expectations. Beginning with an original goal to raise $20,000, within just a few weeks Restore Baltimore was able to surpass that target to raise over $500,000.
"We are so happy our technology played a key role in raising over half a million dollars for such a great cause." Commented MobileCause CEO, Sean MacNeill. "Our entire MobileCause team strives everyday to do everything we can to support organizations dedicated to helping others, so we are very happy to provide United Way of Central Maryland and Restore Baltimore with the mobile technology solutions that are helping them heal a city in need."
