WHY: Country music's favorite on-air personality Storme Warren announces plans to take SiriusXM's "The Highway" (Chan. 56) – satellite radio's flagship channel for new country music, direct from Nashville – to Alaska as part of his USO tour Sept. 13-19. Accompanying him on his week-long adventure are celebrity friends/fellow USO tour veterans Rodney Atkins and The Swon Brothers.
Warren, who was joined 'on air' yesterday by Rodney Atkins and The Swon Brothers, also shared plans to visit multiple military work sites, emcee three USO concerts and broadcast behind-the-scenes commentary from three military installations exclusively on SiriusXM's "The Highway" (chan. 56) starting on or around September 16th. Among the installations Warren and his famous friends will visit and perform at are: Eielson Air Force Base (Sept. 14), Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (Sept. 15) and U.S. Coast Guard Base Kodiak (Sept. 17).
Far from strangers in supporting troops and military families, this trip will mark the fourth USO tour for Warren and Atkins, and the second for The Swon Brothers. Together, the group has visited 24 military bases in four countries and created USO moments for more than 20,000 troops and military families. Among the countries the group has collectively visited are Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and the United States.
QUOTES: Attributed to Storme Warren:
"I remember my USO tour to Iraq back in 2007 like it was yesterday, it was such a life-changing experience. My goal in putting together this year's trip to Alaska was to not only lift the spirits of troops and their families but also bring that rich USO experience directly to our SiriusXM listeners in hopes of shedding light into the important work our troops and military families do for us back home."
Attributed to Rodney Atkins:
"I'm really excited about going on this USO tour. They treat us so well, and we get to do something for them in return and show our troops how much they mean to us. And I'm really looking forward to being back in Alaska, especially since it's for a great cause this time!"
Attributed to Zach Swon of The Swon Brothers:
"When Storme approached us about joining him on his troop visit to Alaska, we jumped at the chance to work with the USO again. The sacrifices our service men and women in uniform make for us each and every day are great, and anything we can do to say 'thank you' or show our appreciation, we are there."
Attributed to Colton Swon of The Swon Brothers:
"I think I safely speak for Rodney, Zach, Storme and the entire SiriusXM Family when I say, we are all very excited about our upcoming visit and can't thank the USO enough for yet another amazing opportunity."
