HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 21, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Connecticut Children's Medical Center will hold a webinar on pediatric kidney stones on Tuesday, September 29 from 12:15-1:15PM. The webinar will be presented by Sherene Mason, MD, MBA and Eric Nelson, MD from Connecticut Children's Center for Urology and Nephrology and will highlight the multidisciplinary ROCKS (Reduction of Children's Kidney Stones) Clinic.
While kidney stones are most common in adults, they can occur in children and adolescents, often resulting in sharp pain, nausea and vomiting. Drs. Sherene Mason and Eric Nelson will discuss evaluation techniques and treatment options for this condition as well as services currently available through Connecticut Children's ROCKS Clinic.

About Dr. Mason: Sherene Mason, MD, MBA, completed her pediatric residency, a year as Chief Resident, and fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology at Yale University School of Medicine. During her fellowship Dr. Mason completed research examining pathways important in renal tubular repair following renal injury. She was awarded the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology Fellow's Research Award in Basic Science for her work. She has a strong interest in congenital abnormalities of the kidney and urinary tract, mechanisms underlying acute and chronic kidney disease and renal transplantation. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Nephrology.
About Dr. Nelson: Eric Nelson, MD, joined the Division of Urology at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in August 2011. Dr. Nelson comes to Connecticut Children's from Texas Children's Hospital-Baylor College of Medicine where he completed his fellowship in pediatric urology. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from Tufts University and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his surgical and urology residencies at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Nelson treats the entire spectrum of pediatric urology, but has a special interest in pediatric stone disease and voiding dysfunction. Dr. Nelson is the site director for the University of Connecticut Urology Residency program.
