BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwired - Sep 23, 2015) - Scott Krugman, MD, FAAP, chairman of Pediatrics at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, has been named the 2015 Pediatrician of the Year by the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MDAAP). A dedicated clinician and committed leader and educator, this prestigious recognition demonstrates Dr. Krugman's role as an instrumental champion for the health and well-being of children.
The award, given annually to a pediatrician, FAAP and Maryland Chapter member, honors Dr. Krugman's career, which has exemplified the ideals of pediatrics in service, advocacy and contribution to organized pediatrics in Maryland. This year, over 125 chapter members voted to name Dr. Krugman Pediatrician of the Year.

Providing pediatric care for over 17 years, Dr. Krugman has been an integral force in enhancing the health of children in Baltimore and the surrounding regions. Managing all aspects of care -- physically, mentally and socially -- Dr. Krugman strives to meet the special needs of children at all stages of their lives, from infancy through adolescence.

After graduating from Dartmouth Medical School and completing a residency at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Dr. Krugman joined MedStar Franklin Square in 1998 as a member of the pediatric faculty. Working closely in conjunction with the department of Family Medicine, Dr. Krugman helped to provide high quality pediatric education to residents and care to patients in the community. In 2002, he became chairman of Pediatrics. As chair of Pediatrics, Dr. Krugman leads pediatric initiatives for MedStar Franklin Square and has also been instrumental in the development, implementation and evaluation of a new pediatric curriculum for Family Medicine residents. As director of Medical Education at MedStar Franklin Square, Dr. Krugman also oversees the hospital's medical education programs.
An expert in pediatrics, Dr. Krugman is involved in several community and statewide organizations. He served as the past president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as a clinical professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
His work in child maltreatment has led to several appointments including chair emeritus of the Child Maltreatment Committee of the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, chair of the Baltimore County Child Fatality Review Team, and co-chair of the strategic planning committee for The Family Tree. Dr. Krugman founded and serves as the medical director of MedStar Franklin Square's Child Protection Team, which evaluates over 300 children at the hospital each year. He is also member of the State Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, the Baltimore County Child Protection Review Panel, the Alternative Response Advisory Council for the Department of Human Resources, the Maryland Child Abuse Providers, and the Child Abuse Medical Professionals (CHAMP).
