CLEVELAND, Ga., Oct. 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Hillbilly Hog BBQ Throwdown and Fall Festival will once again take place at BabyLand General® Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia this October. For the sixth year, a special "kid friendly" contest will be featured at this family friendly event. Kids will have a chance to display their own BBQ culinary skills on October 24th as part of the Kid's Q at the 2015 Hillbilly Hog BBQ Throwdown & Fall Festival. "Each year I am wowed by the creativity, concentration and skill these kids display during their portion of our event," says event organizer, Heather Sinyard.
Cooking skills is a fun way to understand the "chemistry" as well as learn the properties of food and seasonings reaction with heat. Learning in a relaxed atmosphere with family, whether it is your own or "adopted", is what Cabbage Patch Kids enjoy. A Southern Style Home, situated on 650-acres in the beautiful Georgia Mountains, BabyLand General, Home of the Cabbage Patch Kids offers a blazing fall backdrop to the Kansas City Barbeque Society Sanctioned Event. This two day event is a fund raising event for the United Way of White County.
The Kid's Q cooking competition is sponsored again this year by BabyLand General® Hospital and Springer Mountain Farms® to further the mission of educating youth about the world of BBQ and cooking. Each child competing will be provided with a prep area, a grill with hot charcoal and the meat they will prepare for judging. This year the kids will be cooking boneless, skinless chicken breasts from Springer Mountain Farms®, an American Humane Association-certified poultry producer that raises healthy chickens on family farms. The children are encouraged to use their creativity in their cooking method, seasoning and presentation for judging. All contestants will bring their own cooking utensils, cooking supplies and seasonings.
There are two age levels to compete in: the Mini Pit Masters, ages 6-11, and Junior Pit Masters, ages 12-17. Each child is required to have an adult supervise their activities during the contest and may assist with lighting fires, handling knives, etc., but cannot help with the actual food preparation or cooking. Space is limited with several spots already starting to fill up. Top cooks in each category will receive a $50 cash prize and an Exclusive Cabbage Patch® from BabyLand General® Hospital. Second place in each category will also take home a $25 cash prize. All participants will receive a commemorative Hillbilly Hog BBQ Throwdown souvenir. The entire competition includes Professional and Backyard BBQ categories with over $10,000 in cash prizes awarded.
In addition to the Kid's Q, the Throwdown will feature a professional KCBS competition including several teams featured on popular BBQ shows, a "King of the Grill" amateur contest for the non-professional BBQ enthusiasts, entertainment, food vendors, arts & crafts, kid fun in the Piglet Playland and self-guided tours through BabyLand General® Hospital.
