DALLAS, Oct. 19, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza today announced that Lee Harvey Oswald's wedding ring will be on display beginning October 20, 2015, as part of the core exhibit, John F. Kennedy and the Memory of a Nation.Visitors to the Museum will be able to view the 14-karat gold Russian wedding band that Oswald famously left in a tea cup at his wife's bedside the morning of November 22, 1963.
"There are still many lingering questions about Lee Harvey Oswald and who he really was, and what motivated him," said Nicola Longford, executive director, The Sixth Floor Museum. "The display of his wedding band will help convey a more personal dimension to his story as a husband and father. There is much symbolism rooted in any wedding band, and as the Museum continues to grow its collection, special artifacts such as this will enhance the interpretation of the sequence of events and potential motivation behind the assassination of President Kennedy."
This is the first personal item belonging to Lee Harvey Oswald that the Museum has acquired. Most Oswald-related evidence remains at the National Archives.
The ring was purchased by Oswald at a jewelry store in Minsk, Russia, in April, 1961 for his wedding to Marina Prusakova. He was observed as never taking off the ring, and his action of abandoning it the morning of November 22, 1963, has been interpreted by researchers as a possible sign of his mindset that day.
A press preview will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, on the sixth floor of the Museum, located at 411 Elm Street in Dallas.
