Bosa Development Partners With World Housing in Community-for-Community Home Gifting Model

Bosa Development, in partnership with World Housing, announced its plans to gift an entire community of 64 homes to house more than 300 people currently living in metro Manila's slums. Every purchase of a home at Pacific Gate, Bosa's latest residential building in downtown San Diego, Calif., will trigger a contribution to World Housing from Bosa.

With seven downtown San Diego residential communities encompassing nine towers, Bosa's contributions to the San Diego community remain prolific. Bosa's Pacific Gate building in downtown San Diego will attract domestic and international buyers, so it is a natural progression for the company to expand its philanthropic footprint outside the U.S.

Currently, Bosa Development is sponsor of the Rethink Downtown: Behind San Diego's Skyline exhibit, which presents a series of "rethinks" the city has gone through as it evolves and grows. As part of the exhibition, a dynamic lecture series takes place and on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 with World Housing presenting a panel discussion on "Rethinking Community Building Worldwide" from 6-8 p.m. World Housing's story, along with a scale model of a World Housing home, will remain part of the Rethink Exhibition. The panel discussion will include:

• Peter Dupuis, Founder of World Housing
• Erin Spiewak, CEO of Monarch Schools
• Moderator - Graham Brewster, Managing Director, World Housing

Bosa Development has and continues to contribute to the areas in which it has built communities. With downtown San Diego being one of the most robust in Bosa's portfolio with seven downtown communities equaling nine residential towers. Its support in San Diego includes:

• Gifting land and resources to help create cultural and community building projects like San Diego's Cortez Hill, a transitional housing facility for homeless families, in which Bosa was awarded the Peacemaker Award by the San Diego Mediation Center
• San Diego State University's downtown art gallery, located in Bosa's Electra tower, where it will reside rent-free for 60 years
• Contributing land and resources to the Monarch School's new Nat and Flora Bosa Campus, which allows enrollment up to 350 students. The significance of this announcement marks the first community-for-community partnership of its kind in the United States. World Housing gifts homes to families living in slums around the world, who make up approximately 14 per cent of the world's population. While it is homes that are gifted to individuals, World Housing thinks beyond building standalone houses and designs each project with community and social impact in mind.

The oval glass residential tower is designed by renowned New York-based architects Kohn Pedersen Fox, and will change the skyline of downtown San Diego .

A typical World Housing home in the Philippines is a two-story, 260 square feet home, made from concrete and wood. The homes are individually equipped with a restroom, electricity and a fresh water supply. The construction of these homes is overseen by local building partner, Gawad Kalinga. Qualified home recipients living in the slum work together to build the new World Housing community. Homes are built in groups of 32 and share amenities such as a health care building that house two resident doctors, a daycare, a shared recreational space and a school.

Rethink Downtown: Behind San Diego's Skyline is available to residents and visitors to San Diego at no charge. Open for a limited run, the 3,000 square foot Rethink is an exhibition-lecture series that celebrates San Diego and asks visitors to ponder Downtown's future, where it's going, and how architecture, design, amenities and quality of life enable San Diego to matter on a national scale.
