Canada's credit union association receives two prestigious awards for educational program created to help prevent financial abuse of seniors

TORONTO, Nov. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CUSOURCE® , the professional development and education arm of Credit Union Central of Canada (the national association for Canada's credit unions) received two prestigious awards for the creation of a learning program that aids credit union staff in recognizing and stopping the financial abuse of elderly adults. The awards were presented jointly to CUSOURCE, and the program developer, Tamlo International Inc.

The course, Financial Abuse of Older Adults: Recognize, Review, and Respond was released in November 2014, during Financial Literacy Month, to address the growing problem of elder financial abuse. CUSOURCE understood that elder financial abuse is a growing problem in Canada (and around the world) – and knew that credit union employees have an important role to play in preventing the abuse from happening or perpetuating. The course was initially spearheaded with Prevent Elder Abuse Manitoba (PEAM) and has received praise in the House of Commons.

About the Awards

The first award received was the Gold Award for Best Use of Video for Learning from the Brandon Hall Group, through its Brandon Hall Group Excellence Award.
