OnTrac Supports 8th Annual Million Can Crusade

CHANDLER, Ariz., Dec. 02, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OnTrac, the largest regional package delivery company in the United States, joined KNIX Radio and St. Vincent de Paul in their fight against hunger. 2015 marks the fifth year that OnTrac has supported the Million Can Crusade by organizing a canned food drive at the OnTrac corporate office during the month of November.  In addition, OnTrac donated $1,500 to the cause at the KNIX Kickoff party on November 2, 2015. The donation is equivalent to 15,000 cans and helps bridge the gap to collect a total of one million cans. The OnTrac corporate office set a goal to collect 3,000 cans of food and surpassed the goal by 2,017, for a total of over 5,000 cans. In total with the monetary donation, OnTrac donated 20,017 cans to Million Can Crusade this year.

KNIX Radio has hosted the million can crusade during the month of November since 2008. #hungersucks is the theme of the campaign in their eighth year. Ben and Matt In The Morning of KNIX Radio sold apparel with the slogan and one hundred percent of the proceeds went towards their goal to collect one million cans. In addition, tickets were sold to a special concert at Whiskey Row in Scottsdale featuring David Nail on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. Five dollars of each ticket sold went towards the goal as well. Morning show co-host Matt McAllister said, “During this time of the year, I feel so fortunate to help out in this way. It’s such a blessing to be able to do this for a living.”

“It’s a community effort,” said Ben Campbell, morning show co-host. “Every year it’s gotten a little bit bigger. I never imagined that the first year we’d hit the goal of one million cans or that this year we’d be over two million cans.”

Additional to the canned food drive at OnTrac, there were multiple locations throughout the valley during the month where KNIX Radio collected cans from the community. In total, the Million Can Crusade collected 2,653,348 cans and will benefit more than 80 parish-based food pantries in the community to help feed hungry families this holiday season.
