SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 4, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Plaintiffs Larada Sciences, Inc. and University of Utah Research Foundation, as the patent owner and licensor, filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California alleging patent infringement by Picky Pam at the Beach, LLC.
The complaint (civil action number 8-15-cv-02019) alleges that the defendant willfully infringed on U.S. patent numbers 7,789,902 and 8,162,999.
A similar complaint was filed in June 2015 in the U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City. That Court concluded that it did not have personal jurisdiction over Picky Pam at the Beach, and dismissed the complaint on that basis. As a result of the Utah Court's decision, the lawsuit has been re-filed in California. The case in Utah remains pending against Marcy McQuillan d/b/a Nitless Noggins and UKU, Inc. d/b/a Nitless Noggins Headlice Treatment Center.
The patents describe a method for eradicating ectoparasites by applying heated air at a specific temperature, airflow and duration to an infested area.
The University of Utah Research Foundation owns the patents and has licensed exclusive rights to those patents to Larada Sciences.
Larada Sciences developed and markets an FDA-cleared medical device called AirAllé that kills head lice and eggs using just heated air.
Larada Sciences is dedicated to the eradication of head lice. The AirAllé device is used in 85 U.S. locations of Lice Clinics of America, the largest network of professional head-lice-treatment centers in the United States.
