Hoover, Ala., Dec. 04, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The board of directors of the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) has elected Dr. Mark Bedell, assistant superintendent for high schools for Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS), to serve a two-year term on NASRO’s board. Bedell will be one of two representatives of the education community who serve on the school policing organization’s board of directors.
“Dr. Bedell will be an outstanding addition to the NASRO board,” said NASRO executive director Mo Canady. “He comes from a school district that is very supportive of school-based policing. More importantly, school resource officers in his system do it the right way, by incorporating the triad concept of officers acting as mentors, guest speakers and law enforcement officers.”
Bedell has served as BCPS assistant superintendent since Sept. 2012. He is well known for his work on school culture, climate and safety. In addition, one of his major initiatives has been helping the system’s high schools target students who are at risk of dropping out. Under Bedell’s direction, BCPS created a system to monitor and provide additional assistance to ensure that more students graduate and are better prepared to be globally competitive.
