MEMPHIS, TN--(Marketwired - December 09, 2015) - The chill of winter is moving in, and with it comes cold and flu season. To help stop the spread of the flu in shared spaces, including at work, school, and home, Merry Maids and ServiceMaster Clean share important cleaning tips to stop the spread of the virus at home, work and while you're out on the go.
The tips will be featured in a special insert to be included in USA Today and distributed Dec. 11-13 in several major cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, South Florida and Dallas, as well as online at www.futureofpersonalhealth.com.
Debra Johnson, Merry Maids home cleaning expert, is featured in a panel of experts where she shares simple and effective cleaning methods to help reduce the spread of the virus in the home, and also must-have tools to keep on hand while you're out on the go.
"With the flu season kicking into high gear, it's important to make sure you're taking the appropriate steps to help reduce the spread of the virus in your home, at work and when you're on the go," said Johnson. "Cleaning common touchpoints is key, especially if fever has been present. Take a few extra minutes each day, or a few hours each week, to help keep you and your family healthy this flu season."
Here are a few of the expert tips on how to sweep out the germs:
- Vacuum and steam floor surfaces regularly.
- Wipe down common touch points regularly, more when the virus is present.
- Keep hand soap stocked in bathrooms and kitchens.
- Keep fresh hand towels and encourage each home member to use their own.
- Keep tissues readily available in areas of the home where your family spends most their time.
- Change clothes as soon as kids get home from school and parents from work, eliminating outside germs to spread in the home.
- Run vinegar through your washing machine each month to keep your system running clean and trouble-free.
- Clean all electronic surfaces (tablets, phones, gaming systems, ear buds, etc.) especially if they're taken outside the home.
