NCSBN Introduces New Features for Nursys.com

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Dec 10, 2015) - The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), www.ncsbn.org, has announced a host of new features for Nursys®, the only national database for licensure verification, discipline and practice privileges for registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs).

Developed in collaboration with boards of nursing (BONs), Nursys collects and stores a nurse's personal information, licensing information, disciplinary information and license verifications. It provides this information quickly, easily, securely and free of charge to institutions that employ nurses or maintain a registry of nurses through Nursys e-Notify®. Through the nurse licensure verification function, Nursys also provides online verification to a nurse requesting to practice in another state and nurse license lookup reports to employers and the general public.

The following functionality and features have been added to Nursys.com release:

  • A new responsive design provides a better user experience, on multiple devices.
  • Improved graphics, and an enriched look and feel.
  • Licensure QuickConfirm, a system that allows a user to verify nurse licensure status, now offers the ability to search by NCSBN ID, a non-private national unique identifier for a nurse. Reports have also been enhanced to provide comprehensive license and discipline status of all licensed nurses.
  • With e-Notify, nurses and employers can automatically receive publicly available license and discipline status updates from primary source boards of nursing. Institutions now have the ability to see notifications of status changes or licensure expirations immediately after logging into Nursys e-Notify. On the improved Nurse List page, institutions also can easily identify licenses that contain notifications within a given time frame.
  • Individual nurses who self-enroll to receive license expiration reminders can now view their license verification for endorsement reports completed within the last 18 months.

About NCSBN

Founded March 15, 1978, as an independent not-for-profit organization, NCSBN was created to lessen the burdens of state governments and bring together boards of nursing (BONs) to act and counsel together on matters of common interest. NCSBN's membership is comprised of the BONs in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories -- American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. There are also 24 associate members that are either nursing regulatory bodies or empowered regulatory authorities from other countries or territories.

NCSBN Member Boards protect the public by ensuring that safe and competent nursing care is provided by licensed nurses. These BONs regulate more than 4.5 million licensed nurses.

Mission: NCSBN provides education, service and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.

The statements and opinions expressed are those of NCSBN and not the individual member state or territorial boards of nursing.
