MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., Jan. 4, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Carolina Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton has been selected as the December Pro Football Legends Player of the Month presented by Glitek following a vote by the former players who comprise the NFL Alumni Association.
Newton threw for a league-high 13 touchdowns in the month of December (tied with Russell Wilson and Blake Bortles) while tallying a QB Rating of 115.2. The fifth year QB completed 85 of 137 passes for 1,078 yards while allowing just one interception. He also notched 199 rushing yards and scored a touchdown as the Panthers went 3-1 for the month.
Newton captured 35% of the votes to earn the recognition. Russell Wilson, QB for the Seattle Seahawks, finished second in the voting with 20% of the votes. There were eight finalists on the ballot and voting was conducted online December 29-December 31.
