Franciscan Alliance Selects Vocera for Enterprise-wide Clinical Communications

The 14-hospital Health System Plans to Improve Care Team Collaboration and Patient Experience

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vocera Communications (NYSE:VCRA), the leading mobile healthcare communications company, announced today that Franciscan Alliance has begun deployment of the Vocera platform as the secure clinical communication solution for its entire 14-hospital system and physician community. This deployment is the largest in Vocera’s history and is designed to deliver the right information at the right time to the right person on the right device in the right location, enterprise wide.

For more than 140 years, Franciscan Alliance has been a trusted leader in providing faith-based, integrated healthcare to patients in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. Staying true to its mission of delivering care with joy and compassion, Franciscan Alliance is using intelligent communication technology from Vocera to help humanize the healthcare experience for patients, families and staff.

Before we engaged with Vocera, we thought our only option was to cobble together several different vendors’ products to achieve our goals of improving communication and patient experience across the continuum of care. After evaluation, we discovered we only needed the Vocera Communication Platform to unify our efforts and make care team collaboration faster, easier, and more meaningful,” said Bill Laker, SVP of Information Services and CIO of Franciscan Alliance.

Franciscan Alliance is partnering with Vocera to deploy an enterprise-grade, HIPAA-compliant communication and collaboration platform that incorporates real-time voice and messaging, bi-directional integration with the Epic EHR, mobile patient and staff rounding, and integration with all the hospitals’ telephony, nurse call and physiologic monitoring systems. Clinicians and other staff will be able to use a range of different communication devices, including Vocera badges and Zebra MC40-HC mobile computers to connect to Vocera’s software platform. This system-wide communication strategy enables improved care team accuracy, quieter healing environments, reduced length of stay, and better workflows to improve the experience for both care teams and patients.

“Vocera is at least a year ahead of the competition,” said Dick Roskam, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at Franciscan Alliance. “We also chose Vocera because the company’s extensive clinical experience, professional service offerings and culture all aligned well with Franciscan’s future visions and endeavors.”

Vocera offers a unique hands-free voice communication, secure text messaging, and patient engagement solution that integrates with more than 70 clinical systems. By keeping care teams in sync with intelligent message routing, critical notifications, automated call escalation and audit trails, Vocera will help Franciscan Alliance elevate quality of care, safety and satisfaction.

“It is impressive to see how Franciscan Alliance is combining communication technology with a culture of compassion to improve human connections and elevate trusted relationships between nurses, physicians and other care team members across the system.  Our solutions will enable real-time, secure communication on a range of different devices, throughout the entire Franciscan Alliance,” said Brent Lang, president and CEO of Vocera. “It’s an honor to support the people of this inspiring organization as they continue to improve the lives of the patients and families they serve.”

Vocera management will host a brief conference call today at 5 p.m. ET to discuss the strategic importance of this and other previously announced transactions. A live webcast of the conference call will be available on the Investors section of the company’s website at investors.vocera.com. The call can also be accessed by dialing 1-855-307-5251, or 1-440-996-5719, using the access code 17692363.
