Borrego Solar Systems Doubled Assets Under Operations & Maintenance Management in 2015

Leading designer, developer, installer and O&M provider of commercial and utility-scale solar energy systems grows assets under contract to 265 megawatts in 2015

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 21, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Borrego Solar Systems, Inc., today announced that since launching its Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services to all owners of commercial and utility solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in early 2015, the company now has 265 megawatts (MW) of assets under contract. The current portfolio is more than double what it managed in 2014 and quadruple that of 2013. Prior to 2015, the company only offered its O&M services to PV system owners of the projects Borrego Solar designed and built. In 2015, the offering was extended to projects developed and constructed by other engineering, procurement and construction firms in response to increased demand from solar asset owners in need of reliable O&M support.

"In our first year of expanding our O&M offerings to all PV asset owners, it's become very clear that there is demand in the market for the tools, services and expertise we've built into our O&M offering," said Matt Murphy, director of O&M for Borrego Solar. "We strive to give customers complete confidence in the operation of their investment by improving their O&M experience through our combination of robust preventive maintenance, which includes a 100 percent IV curve trace annually, aggressive site response times, short case resolution periods, and a customer portal that provides insight into asset performance and maintenance activities. In most cases we improve a system's output so that it generates greater savings for our clients, and we do it in a transparent and painless fashion."

Borrego Solar manages assets for owners of multiple projects, utility-scale projects and sub-MW capacity projects. Borrego Solar's customers choose its O&M services because it provides an unmatched combination of a comprehensive scope of services at a market-leading price implemented by qualified and experienced solar electricians in the field. Over the past five years, the fleet of projects under Borrego Solar's management have operated at 104 percent of modeled production and over 99 percent of system uptime on average.

"Borrego Solar has consistently provided us with the highest quality operational management," said Philip Williams, director of asset management for Ahana Renewables. "The Borrego O&M team has gone above and beyond by not just solving operational issues, but providing pro-active solutions before problems occur. Our portfolio covers a wide range of system sizes, locations, layouts and major equipment providers. Borrego has the scope and expertise to manage every type of installation."

As we head into 2016, the Borrego Solar team celebrates multiple achievements in 2015:

  • Doubled assets under contract in 2015 to more than 265 MWs
  • Expanded into the North Carolina market with 60+ MWs under management
  • Increased O&M staff and capabilities by 50 percent, primarily adding field electricians
  • Initiated development of a cutting-edge customer portal that will give customer's unparalleled insight into their asset performance and maintenance activities

Every Borrego Solar O&M customer receives year-round 24-hour system monitoring managed by Borrego Solar's System Performance Group. There are three components to the company's support network: on-the-ground O&M staff, the Systems Performance Group and the selected DAS platform. Through comprehensive monitoring, solar assets realize minimum plant downtime as Borrego Solar's local support network is able to respond to plant failures within hours.

On January 22 at the Solar Power Asset Management & Performance conference in Newport, Calif., Matt Murphy will be speaking on a panel titled, "O vs. M: The Case for Grouping or Separating Operations & Maintenance."
