Tesora Database as a Service Platform Automates Real-Time Updates, Improves High Availability, Enhances Support for Oracle and other Databases

Adds clustering support for MySQL, DataStax Enterprise, Cassandra, and Couchbase databases

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 16, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

IT and database managers can now update OpenStack database guest images in real-time with the newest, enterprise-ready version of the Tesora database as a service (DBaaS) platform. This automates patch management that would otherwise be an intensive, manual exercise.

The new Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition 1.7 also provides more control over database replica placement ensuring that they are not subject to the same failure risk as masters while supporting high availability requirements. Plus, a newly available guest image for DataStax Enterprise 4.7, the enterprise version of Apache Cassandra, is added to the extensive list of databases currently supported.

“DataStax users are increasingly looking to the cloud as a way to streamline provisioning and management while being able to offer end users on-demand access,” said Matt Rollender, vice president, cloud strategy, DataStax. “We’re seeing OpenStack as an important enterprise platform for private cloud databases. The addition of support for DataStax Enterprise to Tesora’s database as a service platform is an important step forward for organizations running OpenStack.”

Additional capabilities brought to Tesora’s enterprise-class implementation of OpenStack Trove include the following:

- Oracle 12c and 11g replication support using DataGuard, plus the ability to retrieve log files for troubleshooting and performance tuning;

- Cassandra and Couchbase support for clustering, which improves performance and high availability;

- MySQL clustering support that is based on Percona XtraDB Cluster.

“These new capabilities fundamentally change administrators’ ability to manage disparate database technologies through their lifecycle – from initial set up through maintenance, performance tuning and ultimately to shutting down databases that are no longer required,” said Ken Rugg, CEO of Tesora. “With our implementation of OpenStack Trove, we offer the most advanced platform for database as a service available anywhere from anyone.”

Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition is a single, common management infrastructure that provides a simple, unified way to handle complete database lifecycle management including: provisioning on-demand from a choice of 13 different databases; managing backup and restores; securing with user permissions and automated patch management; log file retrieval; and more.

In addition to multiple databases supported, Tesora DBaaS Enterprise Edition is certified with leading OpenStack distributions from Mirantis, Red Hat and Ubuntu.

Tesora, the primary developer and supporter of OpenStack Trove, provides 24/7 support with enterprise service level agreements, along with frequent maintenance release and bug fixes that resolve problems quickly, plus detailed documentation. Tesora is the leading contributor to the Trove project, alongside other contributing companies like HP, Rackspace, eBay, and Red Hat.

About OpenStack Trove
OpenStack Trove database as a service is transforming the way databases are provisioned and managed, to make database capacity that can be consumed on-demand. Trove lets administrators and DevOps manage multiple instances of different database management systems (DBMS), both relational and NoSQL, using a common infrastructure. This makes it much easier and faster to select and operate a database – while retaining all its capabilities – in a secure private or public cloud. The result is that routine tasks like provisioning, and managing regular administrative tasks like clustering, replication, backup and restore are handled in a simple, unified way.
