According to 87 percent of the clinical and IT executives surveyed at HIMSS16, value-based purchasing has a significant impact on technology decision making in hospitals and health systems. When the 256 research participants were asked what IT attributes most support their value-based purchasing strategies, 79 percent gave their highest ratings to technology that makes clinical staff operations more efficient. Clinical leaders prioritized care team communication and coordination inside and outside the facility as a primary need. Interoperability is also essential, with 82 percent of leaders indicating that clinical systems integration is a top strategic priority.
