State of Tennessee Selects EnergyCAP for Energy Software and Services

EmPowerTN Expects Savings

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 12, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The State of Tennessee has selected EnergyCAP, Inc. to provide utility bill management software and services to support the state's effort to reduce energy costs and consumption across state owned and managed buildings.

The three-year, renewable multi-million dollar contract, which began in February, was secured through a competitive process. It includes a maintenance agreement for state-wide use of the browser-based EnergyCAP energy management software. The contract also allows for assistance with collection of historical utility records dating back to 2012, and current/ongoing utility bill data to assist with development of a statewide data management system to manage the more than 7,000 monthly utility bills the state receives from multiple utility providers.

"Tennessee is establishing a data-based foundation for energy management that other states may want to emulate," said EnergyCAP CEO Steve Heinz. "With EnergyCAP and the associated processes to capture and audit live utility bills, and then approve and pass to accounts payable systems, all state agencies will have accurate, timely utilities information upon which to base energy management analytics and decision-making."

EnergyCAP will track all purchased utilities, including electricity, natural gas, chilled water, steam, propane, fuel oil, coal, domestic water, and waste/sewer.

The contract includes an EnergyCAP review of utility data invoice processing across all state organizations, and implementation of an updated procedure that reduces processing time and cost without compromising accuracy and consistency of the utility information. EnergyCAP's Bill CAPture service will streamline bill collection and will help with data validation.

The new integrated collection, tracking, and reporting system will interface with the state's accounts payable system. The system will also be compatible with current and future Green Button standards for secure reception of electronic utility data.

The contract provides for development of a utility dashboard for sharing information with multiple login users, and future integration of energy data from a Real Time Monitoring System.

EnergyCAP will also help the state with benchmarking energy use by setting a baseline year with comparative reports to be produced for each state-owned building or facility.

"We are excited to see the success of this new initiative and are confident that with the tools it brings, it will quickly pay for itself in utility cost reductions for all Tennesseans," Robert M. Balzar, Director of EmPowerTN said.
