SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - May 18, 2016) - Instacart (www.Instacart.com), the fast-growing retail delivery service whose personal shoppers hand pick and deliver items from trusted local stores, today announced two new grocery options for Chicagoland residents. Beginning today, customers in Chicago can order trusted national brands and local meat and produce from Strack & Van Til, while residents of Downers Grove and the surrounding area can order fresh grocery items at a value from Ultra Foods, and have them delivered straight to their doorsteps in as little as one hour. Strack & Van Til join a growing list of Instacart partners that are part of the Independent Central Grocers Co-Operative.
"We're very excited about being able to offer home delivery," said Brian Fitzpatrick, Chief Operating Officer at Strack and Van Til and Ultra Foods. "Instacart is an industry-leading delivery option for shoppers and this is a new space for us. Shoppers are looking for ways to make the shopping experience more convenient and we know that home delivery is another way to help with that. We wanted to make sure that we partnered with a company that has a proven record of doing it right."
"Partnering with both Strack & Van Til and Ultra Foods stores offers our customers new grocery delivery options in Chicagoland from great stores," said Andrew Nodes, Head of Retail Accounts at Instacart. "We are excited to continue to provide excellent customer service and build a variety of grocery options in our Chicago retail marketplace."
Instacart's initial delivery area for Strack & Van Til Local Foods will be in the Northside neighborhoods of Chicago, while Ultra Foods will be available to suburban customers in Downers Grove, Westmont and nearby cities.
Originally launched in San Francisco, and since expanded into many other cities, Instacart has fundamentally changed the traditional grocery delivery space by connecting customers with personal shoppers who shop for and deliver grocery orders in as little as one hour. This eliminates the need for costly infrastructure such as inventory, warehouses and trucks. In January 2015, Forbes named Instacart "America's Most Promising Company."
How Instacart works: Customers go online to www.Instacart.com or open the Instacart mobile app on their iPhone or Android device, select their city/store, add items to a virtual cart, and then choose a delivery window (within one hour, within two hours, or some scheduled time in the future) and check out. An Instacart Personal Shopper accepts the order on his/her smartphone, uses the Instacart Shopper app to guide them through shopping, and then delivers the order to the customer in the designated delivery timeframe.
New customers can open an account at www.Instacart.com. The first delivery is free and future orders cost just $5.99 for two-hour delivery or $7.99 for one-hour delivery for orders over $35. The minimum order size is just $10. Instacart also offers Instacart Express -- an annual membership that eliminates delivery fees for all orders of $35 or more. The cost is just $149 per year.
