NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - June 14, 2016) - At its annual I/O developer conference this week, Google unveiled the next evolution in app sharing, the aptly named Android Instant Apps. This new breed of software app allows users to enjoy a native app experience without having to download anything from the Play Store. By simply tapping a link or search result users will be able to access everything needed to complete a certain task instantly, minus the lengthy wait time.
The trick behind Instant Apps is that it's built into Google Play services. Once a link or search result is tapped, Google Play grabs only the necessary parts of the relevant app to accomplish a particular goal -- say, watching a Buzzfeed video or buying some new gear from B&H. As demonstrated at the conference, a user would be able to search for a particular item, and then, by simply tapping the link that appears in the results page, go directly to that item on B&H's app and purchase it -- quick, easy, awesome.
Instant Apps are going to be a welcomed relief from the time-consuming chore of downloading full apps or dealing with the ceaseless scrolling of the mobile Web. With Instant Apps, shoppers will be able to complete one-time tasks quickly and hassle-free. They will also be able to get a good preview of a particular app and, if pleased with what they see, they could choose to download the whole thing. According to Google, Instant Apps will work on all devices running Android 4.1 or higher with Google Play services, so pretty much any Android user will be able to use it.
