LOS ANGELES, June 16, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UCBA Trade Association (UCBA), the trade association of compliant medical marijuana dispensaries operating legally within the City of Los Angeles, issued a statement regarding a motion scheduled to be heard tomorrow in the Los Angeles City Council.
The motion by Council President Herb Wesson and Councilmembers Koretz, Martinez, Price, et al. would increase penalties and enforcement to close down all illegal marijuana-related businesses, create a regulatory framework for the City to implement the Adult Use of Marijuana Act if approved in November, and extend Proposition D’s gross receipts tax to all marijuana- related businesses.
“The UCBA Trade Association (UCBA) strongly supports the leadership of the Los Angeles City Council in addressing the immediate need to re-examine Proposition D. We will continue to work with the City Council, City Attorney and the Office of Finance to ensure that a pathway exists for Prop D compliant dispensaries to operate legally, pay taxes and provide safe access to medicinal marijuana for our patients. The UCBA looks forward to a continuing dialogue with the City to create a permit and enforcement system as required by the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act, which was signed into law by Governor Brown in late 2015.”
