OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - July 20, 2016) - Sustainable Development Technology Canada
Today, Leah Lawrence, president and CEO of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), announced changes to the foundation's funding model and application process. Effective immediately, SDTC will be discontinuing regularly scheduled calls for applications in favour of a continuous intake model -- applicants will now be able to submit their initial request for funding at any time via www.sdtc.ca. Additionally, SDTC has revamped the funding application process, introducing a shorter, more interactive process for prospective fundees which includes a presentation via video conference that provides entrepreneurs with the opportunity to pitch their innovative clean tech development and demonstration projects to SDTC's team of experts.
"Since SDTC was created 15 years ago, the fast moving clean tech ecosystem has changed drastically. We feel that this is a great time for our organization to focus on what is best for entrepreneurs -- these changes are being made with them in mind," said Leah Lawrence, SDTC president and CEO.
Applicants will now be able to apply to SDTC for funding 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day. While SDTC's application process will continue to have multiple phases, it will now commence with a short introduction form, and, if approved, would lead to an invitation to present their technology development and demonstration project interactively via a video conference with SDTC experts. These changes to the funding model will allow applicants to find out sooner if they will be invited to proceed to the next phase of the process, which includes an in-depth proposal by the applicant, and site visits from SDTC experts. SDTC's expectation is that these changes will result in a more efficient evaluation process, from application date to approval. A final funding decision by the SDTC Board of Directors will increase from two to three times annually.
SDTC is recognized for its gold standard in evaluating applications for funding. These changes will improve the overall funding process for the applicant by reducing the time spent on the application process, and by deploying SDTC experts when it is most needed -- during the more rigorous second phase of the application process. Our due diligence continues to be second to none, ensuring the best use of Canadian taxpayers' dollars.
