John Marshall Law School Professor Jamie Kleppetsch was recently named president of the Association of Academic Support Educators (AASE).

CHICAGO, July 28, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- John Marshall Law School Professor Jamie Kleppetsch was recently named president of the Association of Academic Support Educators (AASE). Kleppetsch, the associate director of John Marshall's Academic Achievement Program, was installed at AASE's national conference held in May at CUNY Law School in New York. She is the first John Marshall professor to be president of AASE.

"This is an exciting time to be president of the Association of Academic Support Educators," Kleppetsch said. "Law schools are recognizing the need for additional support for all students now more than ever.  The expansion of academic support departments across the country further reinforces the need for an organization like AASE which guides and encourages academic support professors in their endeavors to help law students perform at the highest level of competency."

Regarding AASE's plans for the upcoming year, Kleppetsch said, "Part of AASE's mission is to increase and retain diverse law students through additional support for students from non-traditional backgrounds.  To further this mission, AASE is developing a diversity conference to foster and share the ideas of law school professionals who are supporting diversity in and out of the classroom.  This year we will also be working on publishing a journal that will showcase the scholarship of both academic support professors and those professionals who incorporate academic support interventions in their classrooms."

Kleppetsch has been an involved member of AASE for the past few years.  She previously served as the president-elect, host school representative, and chair of the program committee.

Anthony Niedwiecki, associate dean of Academic Affairs for John Marshall said, "We are very proud that AASE has recognized Jamie's abilities and leadership skills by selecting her to be the president of the organization.  Jamie also plays a leadership role at John Marshall by showing what it means to really care about our students.  She is an innovative and creative professor who has helped so many students succeed in law school and pass the bar exam."

The Association of Academic Support Educators is a professional organization for law school academic support educators.  Its mission is to foster and promote the professional development of its members to enable and encourage research-based teaching methods that enable law students to excel and to reach their full potential--including graduating, passing the bar and practicing law.
