NEW YORK, Aug. 04, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Eduardo Siqueira, Associate Professor at The University of Massachusetts in Boston, has been selected to join the Education Board at the American Health Council. Dr. Siqueira will be sharing his knowledge and expertise in the field of Community Health, Global Public Health, Immigrant Health and Safety, and Brazilian Immigration to the United States.

Dr. Eduardo Siqueira became involved in medicine after beginning his career as a young medical student in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After receiving his medical degree from The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, he utilized his knowledge and expertise of medicine in order to bring awareness to the effects of social, economic, and labor policies on occupational health disparities.
In 1979, Dr. Eduardo Siqueira received his medical degree from The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Subsequently, he pursued his Master of Public Health Degree from The John Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1986. In 1998, he received his Doctor of Science degree from The University of Massachusetts Lowell.
As an Associate Professor at UMASS Boston, his day to day responsibilities include being engaged in the research community through social justice research and educating and mentoring his students on public health issues such as the social determinants of health. Dr. Eduardo Siqueira is also a Coordinator for The Transnational Brazilian Project at The Mauricio Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy. The Gastón Institute’s objective is to educate and inform policy makers regarding issues that are critical to the Latino community in Massachusetts. He has spent 5 years within his current role and 20 years at UMASS Boston.
Dr. Eduardo Siqueira is actively involved in The American Public Health Association. APHA is a not-for-profit organization which aspires to achieve equality in healthcare treatments and advance the health and well-being of the public. He also serves as a board member of The Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians which aims to provide access, equality, and opportunities for immigrants in the city of Boston. Dr. Siqueira plays an active role in community development in Boston.
In 2009, Dr. Carlos Siqueira was honored to have been awarded with The Seeds of Our Green Life Award by the Green Life Housecleaners Cooperative in Boston. Dr. Siqueira was awarded with the MAPS Jorge Figaldo Community Service Award in 2010. In addition, he was given the honor of being awarded with The Outstanding Policy Research Award by the Brazilian Immigrant Center in 2011. Dr. Siqueira has written over 50 professional publications and has delivered dozens of presentations in national and international conferences.
Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Carlos Siqueira is proud to have been recognized as an expert in immigrant health in the United States. Dr. Siqueira’s long term goals include the continuation of his research on social justice and contributing to the creation of a universal healthcare system in the U.S.
