CALGARY, AB--(Marketwired - August 09, 2016) - This week, YMCA Calgary day campers and youths in the Kids in Motion Y program (age 9-12) are learning about philanthropy by collecting thousands of food donations for the Calgary Food Bank. This year, 767 YMCA campers will distribute 13,760 food drive bags in 17 Calgary communities with the goal to feed and support as many struggling Calgarians as possible. YMCA Calgary has been doing this food drive since 1997 and has collected 187,842 lbs. of food for the Calgary Food Bank, to date.
The YMCA Calgary kids in day camps and the Kids in Motion program learn about why the food bank is an important part of the Calgary community. They then celebrate with recreational activities like trips to the zoo, or going swimming. They gain self-confidence and leadership skills, and learn the value of community responsibility while staying active and having fun.
