dotmailer Named First Email Service Provider to Receive EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Certification From the U.S. Department of Commerce

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - August 16, 2016) - dotmailer, a leading global email and cross-channel marketing automation platform, is the first email service provider (ESP) to receive the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Certification from the United States Department of Commerce. This voluntary certification program reinforces dotmailer's ongoing commitment to protecting the digital privacy of its customers. The company is one of only a few to date to receive the certification.

The recently finalized EU/U.S. Privacy Shield was designed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and European Commission to provide businesses with stronger protection for the exchange of transatlantic data. Participating companies under this new arrangement must self-certify annually to the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration (ITA) that it adheres to the Privacy Shield Principles. Once an eligible organization publically commits to the Privacy Shield Principals the commitment is enforceable under U.S. law.

For software as a service ("SaaS") companies like dotmailer, this certification is one more important privacy precedent. The company continues to scale in different regions of the world while reinforcing its continued focus to bring reliable, fast and efficient technology to marketers.

The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield replaces the former Safe Harbour agreement for transatlantic data transfers. Participating organizations must provide adequate privacy protection, a requirement for the transfer of personal data outside of the European Union under the EU Data Protection Directive.
