Names Three New Members to the Board of Directors
All Bring Years of Health Care and Business Experience

MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 18, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The board of directors of RotaCare Bay Area (RBA), a not for profit organization with twelve free medical clinics in the greater Bay Area, has elected Steven Polcyn to a two-year term as its president.
Steven Polcyn is a senior investor relations and corporate communications executive with significant international broad-based health care and high technology industry experience. He was one of the founders of the RotaCare Pittsburg Free Medical Steve was also a founder of the RotaCare Richmond Free Medical Clinic. He has served on the board of directors of RotaCare Bay Area, Inc. since 2011. Steve is the Founder of the Robbie’s Patient and Family Recreation and Entertainment Endowed Fund at the Anne and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Alamo and served as its president in 1992 – 1993 and 2010 – 2011. He currently serves as the Rotary District 5160 Foundation Grants Chair and was previously the District’s Global Grants Chair.
In addition, the RBA board of directors has elected Jewel Ann Hunt, Gregory Thompson, M.D., MSc., and Robert Turcios, O.D. to its board.
Jewel Hunt is a senior leader with diverse global leadership and experience in the health and wellness industry and retail sector. She is currently the group vice president, bakery for Albertsons / Safeway, responsible for the integration of 14 divisions with 2,307 bakeries throughout U.S. in multiple banners including of Albertsons, Safeway, Randall’s / Tom Thumb, Jewel Osco, Lucky, Acme, United, Market Street, Amigos, Vons, Pavilions, Carrs, and Star and Shaws. From 2011 to 2015, she served Safeway’s group vice president pharmacy, health and wellness, where she was responsible for developing Strategic Initiatives centered on Health & Wellness, Retail Operations, Supply Chain, Managed Care, Merchandising and Marketing programs. In this position Jewel was responsible for eight divisions with 1,107 Pharmacies and Wellness Centers across the U.S. and Canada.
Dr. Gregory Thompson is a physician executive with over 25-years of health care experience. He has managed ambulatory care centers, health care personnel; implemented electronic medical records systems and has extensive clinical, administrative and consulting experience. Since June 2012, Dr. Thompson has served as the volunteer medical director of the RotaCare Monterey Free Medical Clinic, which provides quality health care to uninsured and under-served residents there. Dr. Thompson is the Co-founder, executive vice president and chief medical officer of MD Informatics, LLC. Prior to that (2012-2014), he was the chief medical officer / regional medical director for Humana Government Business, where he was responsible for clinical personnel management and clinical quality at 28 Veterans Administration Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Dr. Thompson has extensive experience working with the Veterans Administrations having served as the director of emergency services, assistant professor of medicine, staff internist, associate chief of medicine and chief medical officer.
Dr. Robert Turcios is a second-generation optometrist who has practiced in Pleasant Hill since 1984. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in 1978 and his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1980, earning academic awards for Excellence in Binocular Vision and Outstanding Merit for his doctoral thesis. In addition to providing general eye care to all in need, Dr. Turcios’ special interests include the fitting of specialty contact lenses for astigmatism and bifocal needs; the diagnosis and management of eye disease such as Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma, which he is certified to treat; and Children’s vision problems and eye coordination training. He is a member of the American and California Optometric Associations and is a 32-year member of the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hill, where he was president from 2011/2012. Dr. Turcios has been providing eye care and eyewear to the RotaCare Pittsburgh’s patients for 3 years, having seen 91 patients to date.

RotaCare Bay Area (RBA) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization. RBA serves the health care needs of many individuals the Affordable Care Act cannot support. RBA is “the Safety Net for the Safety Net.”
RBA is a volunteer alliance of medical professionals, organizations and community members dedicated to providing free primary, quality health care services to uninsured and under-served families and individuals with limited ability to pay for medical care. RBA’s network consists of 12 free medical clinics operated in Coastside (Half Moon Bay), Concord, Daly City, Gilroy, Monterey, Pittsburg, Richmond, San Jose, San Leandro, San Rafael, Santa Cruz and the newest Clinic in Stockton, which is scheduled to open in October. The RotaCare Clinics experienced over 18,400 patient visits last year. The Clinics receive no government funding or insurance reimbursement.
