KEARNY, NJ--(Marketwired - Aug 24, 2016) - Recent findings published in the journal Obesity, the official peer-reviewed research journal of The Obesity Society, reveal evidence that our bodies can actually resist weight loss making it more challenging to maintain weight loss. The authors of the study report that keeping weight off after weight loss requires, "vigilant combat against metabolic adaptation." However, a previous study published in Obesity found that nearly 75 percent of participants taking dietary supplements containing the carb-controlling Phase 2 ingredient maintained weight loss for an additional six months after the initial reduction in weight and reported decreased appetite for sugary foods.
"The most difficult step in losing weight actually comes after the weight loss," said David Foreman, known as "The Herbal Pharmacist," who started his career as a registered pharmacist and now uses his expertise in physiology, pharmacology and integrative medicine to educate consumers on cutting edge approaches to natural health and healing. "If someone is trying to lose weight, I always recommend using an ingredient from a specific white kidney bean extract called Phase 2. Several clinical studies prove it facilitates gradual weight loss by blocking up to 65 percent of unwanted carbohydrate absorption if taken before a carb-rich meal, while decreasing sugar cravings, which is essential to keeping the weight off."
The Obesity study conducted by researchers from National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the NIH followed 14 contestants of "The Biggest Loser" TV show and found most regained the majority of their weight loss within six years after the competition.
"Obesity is a chronic disease and chronic diseases respond best to moderate lifestyle changes made over time, not boot-camp style regimens that cannot be maintained," said Foreman. "If your diet plan cannot be maintained in the long-term, it's not the best approach to treat a chronic disease."
Foreman says one of the biggest traps dieters fall into are extreme weight loss strategies such as extreme workouts or total elimination of a certain food groups like carbohydrates.
"Just like this study proves, anyone can drop weight quickly in a short amount of time especially if there is a supervised diet and exercise intervention, but when real life enters the picture again, your diet plans are doomed and so is your waistline," said Foreman. "You need to have a plan in place that can be maintained in the long term. It's OK to have Friday night pizza with family and friends from time to time, as long as you have a strategy in place that will save you from the carbohydrate backlash."
In addition to weight loss maintenance findings, Obesity's double-blind, 123-participant study found those who took a supplement with the carb-controlling Phase 2 ingredient, lost an average of 7 pounds in 12 weeks, in addition to significant loss of body fat and girth compared to the placebo group. Phase 2 carb controller is a non-stimulant proprietary ingredient from a specific white kidney bean that can be found in many carb blocking nutritional supplements including: Natrol's Carb Intercept, Now Foods' Phase 2 Starch Neutralizer, Swanson's Phase 2 Starch Neutralizer, GNC's Total Lean Phase 2 Carb Controller and The Vitamin Shoppe's Phase 2 Carb Controller (www.phase2info.com).
