TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 22, 2016) - This year is the 10th anniversary of Hotel Workers Rising, UNITE HERE Local 75's successful campaign to create thousands of good hospitality jobs in Toronto.
Now, the union is ready for the next step. Hospitality workers and their allies are gathering to launch Toronto Rising! -- a movement fighting for a living wage for all, good jobs in our communities, affordable housing across the GTA, a Toronto that works for young people, and equal rights under the law for immigrant- and service-workers.
What: 700 UNITE HERE Local 75 members and their community supporters and allies gathered together at Trinity-St Paul's United Church to celebrate ten years of the successful Hotel Workers Rising campaign, and lay out an ambitious plan to stand up for a living wage for all, good jobs in our communities, affordable housing across the GTA, a Toronto that works for young people, and equal rights under the law for immigrant- and service-workers.
Speakers will include hotel and food service workers from across the city, Rev. Scott Marks, (Co-founder, Connecticut Center for a New Economy), Chris Buckley (President, Ontario Federation of Labour), MPP Peter Tabuns, and leaders from a number of dynamic community and social justice groups from across the city.
When: Thursday, September 22nd, 2016 at 6:00pm
Where: Trinity-St Paul's United Church, 427 Bloor St W, Toronto (just west of Spadina)
