The Israel Project Mourns the Passing of Shimon Peres

Washington, D.C., Sept. 28, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Israel Project (TIP) today deeply mourns the passing of Shimon Peres. The last of Israel's founding fathers, Peres contributed decisively to Israel's security in its vulnerable early years, became its leading voice for peace later on, and ultimately served as a powerful force of unity as its ninth president. No one worked as tirelessly to ensure that the people of Israel enjoy a safe, secure, and peaceful future.

TIP CEO Josh Block said: “Shimon Peres dedicated every ounce of his energy to serving Israel and the Israeli people. For longer than most of us have been alive, Peres worked to build a safe and secure home for the Jewish people in the state of Israel. His contributions to Israel's strategic and diplomatic position in the world, and his articulation of his nation's highest aspirations, will never be forgotten.

“Peres once said, ‘the duty of leaders is to pursue freedom ceaselessly, even in the face of hostility, in the face of doubt and disappointment.’ And at every turn, he did just that.

“Every meeting with President Peres was a life changing experience. His deep understanding of the past, present and future of Israel, the Jewish people, science and the connection between them is unparalleled. Israel, America, and the world will mourn together on the passing of Shimon Peres, the peace-maker.

“From his Nobel Peace Prize, to his efforts to secure Israel’s place in a dangerous region and a swiftly changing world, to his boundless hope for Israel's future as a prosperous democratic nation, Peres will be remembered as one of Israel’s most important historical figures. He began his public service before Israel’s founding, and his legacy will live on long after his passing.

“Yehi zichro baruch. May his memory forever be a blessing."
