Get the Fat Out: Liposuction Procedures Keep Rising States Global Survey Results by ISAPS

Men and women are choosing to eliminate fat through surgery

NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Men and women are increasingly choosing liposuction to remove stubborn fat that won’t go away.  For these patients that have exhausted the do-it-yourself method of diet and exercise, liposuction has proven a welcome relief to their bodies and self-esteem.  As shown in the just released global survey results, the ISAPS shows that not only does the U.S. have the most liposuction surgeries, but that number has grown worldwide by 1.4% from the previous year.

Most Popular Surgical Procedure in 2015:
Procedure  2015 2014   Percentage
Liposuction 1,394,588 1,372,901 1.4%

As much as the general public is aware of and practicing healthy diet and exercise regimes, this popular surgery continues to grow.  Liposuction makes up 14.5% of the total surgical procedures globally performed by plastic surgeons.  Females make up the majority at 84.7% with men claiming 15.3%.  The United States performed the most liposuctions at 17.2% of the countries' total procedures or 240,565.  Brazil comes in second with 182,765 procedures and 13.1% of their total surgeries.

“These numbers reflect the many options that patients have,” noted Susumu Takayanagi, MD, ISAPS president. “When patients find their efforts to eliminate stubborn areas are not working, they have a choice.  By consulting with their ISAPS member doctors, they feel comfortable electing this safe, proven procedure,” he states.  The results will be shared on the ISAPS website http://www.isaps.org in the News section, and discussed in the annual global conference in Kyoto, Japan, October 23-27, 2016.

With liposuction techniques having been refined over the years, the surgery is tops for men and women frustrated by problem areas that don’t respond to diet and exercise.  They feel confident having a solution in liposuction, and selecting the right physician through the ISAPS network of accredited surgeons.  For those patients seeking a non-surgical option, they’ll be happy to learn about the popular CoolSculpting “fat freezing” technology from Zeltiq.  Surgeons attending the biennial meeting in Kyoto this October will be able to share this information with them after attending presentations and a special workshop featuring the successful method of removing stubborn fat through freezing.

This collection of information of surgeries and non-surgical treatments from 2015 was tabulated from a single-page questionnaire sent to approximately 35,000 plastic surgeons in the ISAPS database. ISAPS is the only organization that collects this type of data on a global scale and the study is viewed as a valuable resource in the field.  The International Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures Performed in 2015 was compiled, tabulated, and analyzed by Industry Insights, Inc. http://www.industryinsights.com, an independent research firm based in Columbus, OH.
