Tempo Continues Legacy of Corporate Philanthropy with Commitment to Room to Read and Celebrates its Anniversary with Pledge 1%

Regular donations of product licenses and proceeds help communities around the world

REYKJAVIK, Iceland, Nov. 02, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tempo, a B2B software venture that is transforming the way teams and businesses work in Atlassian JIRA, today announced that it continues its corporate giving efforts and contributions to Pledge 1% and Room to Read.

Tempo has a long-standing corporate culture of community service and philanthropic leadership, including sponsorship of local networking events for high school and university students to introduce them to career opportunities in technologies, and support of an annual women in technology initiative based locally in Iceland.

“Like many of our peers, Tempo is experiencing rapid growth,” said Agust Einarsson, CEO, Tempo. “With that growth comes a responsibility to help those in our industry and the communities we serve. As one of the largest, award-winning, and top-selling developers in the Atlassian Ecosystem to offer solutions that extend JIRA to help software, service desk and business teams work smarter, we have at our core a focus on collaboration. Building solutions that help teams plan, budget, and track projects extends naturally to our corporate desire of helping others – whether customers or individuals living in the communities we serve.”

Tempo is celebrating its one year anniversary committed to Pledge 1%, which began in 2015 (see release:Tempo Joins the Pledge 1% Movement, Makes Commitment to Integrated Philanthropy). Founded by Atlassian, Rally, and Salesforce, Pledge 1%, is a corporate philanthropy movement dedicated to making the community a key stakeholder in every business. It empowers companies to donate 1% of product, equity, profit or employee time to improve communities around the world.

“We are proud to work with partners like Tempo that prioritize the community as a key stakeholder in their business,” said Jonathan Srikanthan, foundation manager at Atlassian. “More than 60 Atlassian partners have now joined the Pledge 1% movement, and together as an ecosystem we are making a tremendous positive impact on the world.”

For more than six years, Tempo has partnered with Room to Read. This nonprofit, founded by former Microsoft executive John Wood, seeks to improve literacy and gender equality in the developing world. Tempo donates all proceeds of its $10 annual starter licenses (for 10 users) to Room to Read. These funds are in turned applied wherever they are needed most, ensuring that all the students and communities that Tempo has committed to are supported and can thrive.

Tempo’s more than $75,000 in donations to Room to Read to date has help provide more than 1,800 children with one year of education. In the first two quarters of 2016, Tempo donated nearly $12,000, which according to Room to Read will provide the equivalent of support to over 220 students in their Literacy Program for one year.

As a result of Tempo’s donations to Room to Read,  a local storyteller and artist in Nepal was commissioned to write and illustrate a children’s book for local libraries and schools. The book  was dedicated to the Tempo team in recognition of its charitable giving.

About Room to Read
Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, Room to Read’s innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools in low-income countries during two time periods which are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. We work in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and ensure girls can complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions. Room to Read has benefited 10 million children across 18,000 communities in Asia and Africa and aims to reach 15 million children by 2020. Learn more at https://www.roomtoread.org
