My Alarm Center Announces 2016 National Scholarship Winners

Fourth Annual Program Supports Students in the Pursuit of Criminal Justice and Law Degrees

Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, Nov. 02, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

My Alarm Center is proud to announce the winners of its fourth annual national scholarship program, which supports students who are studying to make our neighborhoods a safer place. The three winners will receive scholarships to help fund college degrees in law, law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field.

Applicants were asked to write an essay on what attracted the applicant to a law enforcement-related career and what they hoped to achieve from this career. The three winners were selected from more than 200 submissions by an internal committee. This year’s winners are:

  • Kyle Bodenhorn, a junior at Johns Hopkins University in the Public Safety Leadership Program, is the recipient of the first place $1,000 award to further enhance his current law enforcement career. Kyle is fortunate enough to already be living his dream as he has held a variety of positions ranging from patrol officer to sergeant for the Prince George’s County Police Department for the last 11 years.

  • Anna Maria Bieganowska, a sophomore at University of Maryland, received a $500 scholarship to use toward her goal of one day working for the FBI. As a naturalized citizen originating from Poland, Anna takes a unique approach to her dreams, striking a balance between traditional Polish values of commitment and being humble, combined with American values of risk taking and always keeping an open mind.

  • Edith Montanez received a $500 scholarship to pursue her degree in criminal justice from University of Phoenix. Edith knew from an early age she wanted a career in law enforcement and despite having already worked in the industry for more than two decades she is passionate about completing her degree. Coming from a rough area she knew as “Danger Island,” where many viewed law enforcement as racist or oppressive, Edith saw them as heroes and protectors, giving her a lifelong love of her career.

“Every year we have offered this program I am blown away by the caliber of applicants looking to pursue these important careers in criminal justice,” said Amy Kothari, president and CEO of My Alarm Center. “We believe it is our corporate responsibility to foster security both from our product offerings as well as through the development of the next generation of security professionals. We extend heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Kyle, Anna Maria and Edith and look forward to seeing the mark they make on the security of their communities.”
