Help Create 1 Million More Swimmers Through Step Into Swim

NSPF's Step Into Swim Campaign Provides Swim Lessons to Disadvantaged Children

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Dec. 5, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®) continues its 2012 mission to create 1 million more swimmers over the course of 10 years. Tax-free donations can be placed through NSPF's Step Into SwimTM Campaign website: stepintoswim.org/donate.

The Step Into Swim campaign benefits two groups of children: children that cannot afford to learn the life-saving skill of swimming because of their economic or cultural standing, and children who benefit from Angels of America's Fallen (AOAF). AOAF is a non-profit organization that supports children of fallen military and first responders who can then follow their dreams and passion.

Grants were provided to the following organizations during 2016:
Angels of America's Fallen
Florida Swimming Pool Association
Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition, TX
New York State Parks/Heritage Foundation
Redding Aquatic Center, CA
Splash Mid-South, TN
SwimToday by USA Swimming
YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth, TX

In 2016, the New York State Parks "Learn to Swim" program taught 11,773 children throughout the state. The Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition taught 363 individuals, 48 whom were adults, throughout the summer. Splash Mid-South provided lessons to 250 underserved youths in the World's Largest Swimming Lesson and Picnic in Memphis, Tennessee.

This year, the National Swimming Pool Foundation asks that both individuals and companies take the time to make a donation that will help children around the country learn the life-saving skill of swimming, which will be the gift of a lifetime.

"When we deliver water into people's lives, we deliver more life for people," stated Thomas M. Lachocki, Ph.D., NSPF CEO. "People gain more life contentment when they are water competent and all types of water bodies deliver joy and memories. The Step Into Swim Campaign is one way we can help spread the love of water and reduce the fear."

Your donation will help a child live a healthier life. Together as an industry, we can make a difference. For more information, to donate, or to apply for a 2017 grant, visit stepintoswim.org/donate.
