SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - December 08, 2016) - IFTTT, the platform that allows services to work together seamlessly, announced it is collaborating with Weather Underground, one of the largest IoT networks in the world, to power IFTTT's new and improved Weather service on https://ifttt.com/weather. The collaboration makes it easier than ever to leverage weather data to make decisions in our ever-connected daily lives using IFTTT Applets.
The IFTTT partner platform was officially launched in November of 2016. Partners are able to quickly integrate with hundreds of other services and build Applets that create new experiences for their users. Applets bring services together to create new experiences.
The Weather Underground service on IFTTT will leverage information such as:
- Current weather conditions
- Three-day forecasts
- United States' pollen data
- Hyperlocal weather data from local weather stations
Other Applets now available via the Weather Underground integration include:
- If the outdoor temperature is below 40 degrees, get a mobile notification reminding you to bundle up
- Always be prepared for the weather by getting mobile and email notifications if rain is expected and adding it to your calendar
- Receive a notification if there is a high pollen count in your area
- Start my WeMo coffeemaker at sunrise
- If on vacation, turn indoor or outdoor lights on at sunset and off at sunrise:
With over 200,000 stations within Weather Underground's Personal Weather Station Network,WeatherUnderground is one of the most powerful weather data and IoT networks in the world. As part of The Weather Company, an IBM Business, Weather Underground brings an expansive worldwide data community of hundreds of thousands of people sharing real-time data, a team of expert meteorologists, and an advanced proprietary forecasting model to provide the most reliable and accurate forecasts available. In addition to traditional weather data basics such as temperature and precipitation, the company's data set also includes pollen, UV index, and other sensor data. These IoT capabilities and unparalleled amounts of data will bring exciting experiences to IFTTT – enabling users to leverage their connected homes, cars, phones, and other devices to better monitor and adapt to various weather conditions.
"In today's world, we know that the right information matters more than ever. The more connected we are, the more we know, and the better decisions we can make," said Mike Finnerty, senior vice president of global strategy and development at The Weather Company, an IBM Business. "Weather Underground has been at the forefront of the IoT movement since 2001, and by working with IFTTT we're able to add value and deeper insight into our interconnected world – whether you're planning a road trip for the holidays, preparing your home for winter, or simply streamlining your daily routine."
"I'm thrilled that Weather Underground is bringing their deep expertise in weather data to IFTTT, which will help our users do more with all their other services and devices, and empower our partners to build amazing Applets," said Linden Tibbets, CEO at IFTTT. "By joining forces, we're creating countless new possibilities to make our users' lives easier, and it's a testament to the power of our new Applets platform."
