HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C., Jan. 17, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ting, a division of Tucows (NASDAQ:TCX) (TSX:TC), breaking with industry norms of announcing nebulous plans for gigabit fiber and then just kinda leaving it at that, is pleased to report that the first real Holly Springs customer just got real, crazy fast fiber Internet. Really.

“The Internet is central to everything we do, and we believe communities that take proactive steps toward getting better Internet infrastructure for their citizens set themselves up for the next phase of potential growth,” said Elliot Noss, CEO of Tucows.

Ting Internet first announced plans to bring crazy fast fiber Internet to Holly Springs, NC in October 2015. Demand was assessed and mapped by way of $9 customer pre-orders and in June 2016, Ting announced that construction was about to begin in Phase 1, encompassing the neighborhoods of Holly Glen, Braxton Village and Holly Pointe.

Now, Phase 1 construction is complete and construction is underway in Phase 2 (Oak Hall, Windcrest, Morgan Park, Windward Pointe).

“We’re through the ‘dirt and hard work’ phase of construction here in Phase 1,” said Adam Eisner, VP Networks, Ting Internet. “While construction of the larger network in Holly Springs is ongoing, we’re very happy to be able to start getting people connected with crazy fast fiber Internet here, starting today.”

“Ting has demonstrated its commitment to Holly Springs, and that’s exactly what we look for when working with the private sector,” said Holly Springs Mayor Dick Sears. “The citizens of Holly Springs deserve the best Internet access to allow them to telecommute, to inspire kids with the possibilities technology brings and to keep Holly Springs growing at the impressive pace we’ve been driving.”

Ting Internet costs $89 per month for a home or $139. for a business. There is also a low cost, entry-level offering of $19 for 5/5 Mbps service. People pre-ordering Ting gigabit Internet unlock special discounts on installation, up to and including the full cost of residential installation ($200) plus additional credit that can be applied to the cost of the high speed wireless router ($199 up front or $9/mo).
